March 28, 2015: India can save up to US $7 billion per annum by changing incandescent lamps with energy efficient LED bulbs, said power minister Piyush Goyal.
While speaking at a seminar held in New Delhi he added, “We have set challenging targets to save energy as energy conservation has an equally important role to play with generation. We are looking at savings of nearly 100 billion units of power, by the use of LED lights, translating into US $ 7 billion annually.”
He said that the use of energy efficient LED lights will reduce high power demand of the country by 10,000MW each day.
PM Narendra Modi has launched a LED bulb distribution scheme for light-emitting diode (LED) bulb under the Domestic Efficient Lighting Programme.
Under the scheme, the consumers in Delhi can register requests to get LED bulbs.
