February 6, 2015: Prakash Javadekar, state minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, has said that our country has the potential to conserve up to 100,000MW of energy through solar power by the year 2020. He added that energy conservation and energy efficiency is a concern for the nation.
Javedkar was speaking at a conference on India’s climate policy. He further added that India can achieve saving 100,000MW of solar energy in the next five years. Prseiing the need for energy conservation, he added that all Indians should focus on energy efficiency.
As reported in DNA, Javedkar added that the centre has identified 17 highly polluted sectors. The ministry has also made the rules more stringent for industries, pressing the need to contain pollution. The government is planning to install pollution monitoring devices at emission/discharge points in 3206 units, including the chimneys of industries in order to check the level of pollution.
