Saturday, September 07, 2013: DeitY has taken the initiative of reviewing the implementation of Compulsory Registration Scheme. A meeting, in this regard, was held under the chairmanship of Dr. Ajay Kumar, JS, DeitY, on 8 August, 2013 to take stock of the compliance status of the ‘Electronics & IT Goods (Requirements for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2012’.
The meeting was attended by representatives from department of customs, department of commerce, BIS, STQC, BIS recognised labs and industry associations.
All stakeholders, including BIS and industry were asked to make use of the portal created for the CRS. It was also agreed that department of customs would organise regional workshops to create greater awareness amongst their field formations, regarding the new scheme. The local industry, DeitY and BIS officials could participate in such workshops.
The meeting also discussed how the process of launching new products could be streamlined so that the industry and the consumers are able to get new products with minimal delay, while ensuring compliance to the scheme. Industry representatives agreed to provide specific suggestions in this regard. Some industry representatives raised concern regarding the details of information that could be put on the portal. It was agreed that this was an important issue and there was need for more detailed discussion on the issue. Industry was also requested to provide their suggestions in this regard. The main concern in the meeting was regarding lack of progress in the issue of registrations by BIS. The BIS representative assured that the systems were being put in place.
