The partnership aims to enhance the application of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and machine learning for the development of R&D solutions and algorithms
Striving to be in sync with the country’s goal of indigenisation and self-reliance, Navratna PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) signed an MoU with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, to work together in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML) and other emerging technologies. The agreement was signed at Aero India 2023, the biennial air show and aviation exhibition held in Bengaluru recently.
Aimed at leveraging the complementary strengths and capabilities of BEL and IISc, the partnership will enable both parties to develop various products and services wherein artificial intelligence is embedded and integrated. Notably, IISc will provide specialised services in AI and ML for BEL to initiate various projects in terms of the development of R&D solutions, algorithms, training for BEL engineers, etc.
It is noteworthy that at the Def-Expo 2022 last year and otherwise, BEL went in for many public-private partnerships to execute turnkey projects.
Bengaluru-based BEL is a Navratna DPSU under the Indian Defence Ministry. It was established way back in 1954, to meet the needs of the Indian defence services for electronics equipment, systems and services. BEL’s non-defence business segment includes areas such as electronic voting machines, homeland security & smart cities, satellite integration & space electronics, railways, AI, cyber security, software as a service, and energy storage products, besides composite shelters & masts.
