Tuesday, October 14, 2014: A 200KW rooftop solar power project has been completed by Gujarat Energy Research and Management Institute (GERMI) with a concept of micro-grid at Ranchi in Jharkhand. The grid-connected rooftop solar power project has been jointly designed by GERMI and the Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI).
According to an official statement, the project was set up on the CMPDI building in Ranchi on 9 October. The commissioning of the project comes at the moment when the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy is focusing more on solar power systems. S K Srivastava, secretary, Ministry of Coal, Government of India, was attending the inauguration of the unit in Ranchi and he praised the diligence of GERMI and CMPDI employees and also added that an MoU has been signed between Coal India and Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) for installing 1,000MW solar power system.
The pilot project started in September 2013 and the project has been completed with one year, according to the statement. GERMI has acted as the technical specialist for this project. Prof. T. Harinarayana, director, GERMI-Gandhinagar, said that the institute has played a major role in pioneering several rooftop solar projects in Gujarat. GERMI holds experience of more than 60MW solar PV projects and is presently working with various state and central government agencies to spread solar energy across the country.
