In a recent press briefing, Anurag Thakur, the esteemed Minister of Information and Broadcasting, unveiled a pivotal development. The Union Cabinet, under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has endorsed the PM e-Bus Seva Scheme. With a commitment to fostering sustainable practices, this scheme is strategically poised to champion the cause of environmentally friendly transportation across various cities.
The PM e-Bus Seva Scheme has been earmarked with a substantial budget of Rs 57,613 crore. Out of this financial allocation, the central government will provide a significant share of Rs 20,000 crore, while the respective state governments will support the remaining segment.
This innovative undertaking will revolutionise urban transportation dynamics, emphasising ecological sustainability and proactive measures against climate change impacts. As part of this program, a fleet of 10,000 new electric buses is slated to adorn the roads of 169 cities. The initiative targets urban areas with populations surpassing three lakh inhabitants, focusing on those lacking structured bus services.
A pivotal aspect of the PM e-Bus Seva Scheme involves embracing a public-private partnership framework for procurement and maintenance. This cooperative strategy guarantees effective administration and the utmost utilisation of available resources. With a comprehensive span that extends until 2037, the scheme provides a strong foundation for lasting enhancements. Additionally, the government has committed a decade-long backing, underscoring its unwavering dedication to ensuring the triumph of this initiative.
