The Greater Noida Authority is a step closer to new lighting systems when it viewed a plan for setting up ‘smart’ poles in the city.
According to Deepak Agarwal, CEO, GNIDA,smart poles — mounted with LED lights, CCTV cameras and Wi-Fi routers — will be installed across the city next year.
Agarwal said that they are looking at not only smart streetlighting but also smart parking solutions and smart traffic lights. Apart from LED lights, the poles will also support telecom firms’ devices for mobile networks, doing away with separate mobile towers. WiFi routers can be fixed on the same tower, enabling residents to enjoy WiFi hotspot zones.
Ericsson, a Swedish company specialising in ICT technologies, made a detailed presentation for the project on Monday, Agarwal said.
