In order to give a major push to local components manufacturing, the government is considering to give more incentives to mobile components manufacturers in the country. This is to make India a mobile component and accessories manufacturing hub in the next three to four years.
According to Economic Times, the government is likely to change the duty structure around mobile phone components such as camera module, printed-circuit board (PCB) and keyboards to expand the manufacturing base locally by next year.
According to Ajay Kumar, additional secretary, Department of Electronics and IT, “There is a provision to manufacture a few accessories in the Union Budget 2016-17. In the next three to four years’ time, India will have a full-scale components manufacturing operational.”
Presently, India is importing more than 90 per cent of mobile components and the government is very keen to change this and so the government is trying to help mobile component manufacturers in a phased manner. According to industry sources, if India wants to really be a electronics manufacturing hub, components manufacturing is a must and this boost by the government will go a long way in helping local mobile components manufacturers.
