With the roll-out of the Goods & Services Tax (GST) from July 1, the government has revised the prices of energy-efficient appliances distributed under a flagship scheme aimed at expanding the availability of such electrical products.
The scheme Unnat Jeevan by Affordable LEDs and Appliances for All (UJALA) — was launched by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in 2015 with a target of replacing 77 crore inefficient bulbs with Energy Efficient LED Bulbs.
According to ETEnergyWorld, a statement issued by Energy EfficiencyServices Limited (EESL) said that the 9W LED bulbs are priced Rs70, 20W LED tube light Rs 220 and 5-star rated fans will be available at Rs 1,200 only.
EESL is the nodal agency for implementation of the UJALA programme. It has appealed all consumers to not pay any amount over and above the prices fixed by EESL for the UJALA appliances.
Over 248 million LED bulbs, 2.76 million tube lights and 1milllion fans have already been distributed across 28 states.
