According to a recent report by PTI, the IT Ministry has launched many initiatives and programmes, including BHIM 2.0 that packs-in new functionalities, support additional languages and has increased transaction limits.
About BHIM app
BHIM App was launched in 2016. It was developed by National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) and allows people to make payments using a smartphone. It makes use of two major platforms developed by the government — Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AEPS) for authentication and Aadhaar Payment Bridge (APB) that acts as a repository.
New features
An official release stated that in order to make BHIM app more feature-rich and effective it has been enhanced with a bunch of new functionalities. Some of the features marking BHIM 2.0 include a ‘Donation’ gateway, increased transaction limits for high-value transactions, linking multiple bank accounts, offers from merchants, an option of applying in IPO, gifting money.
It further stated that the MSH portal brings onboard key constituents of the tech startup ecosystem with startups, technology incubation centres, Centres of Excellence (CoEs), mentors, VCs and angels together. It is also mandated to integrate existing programmes and innovation-related activities of the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY).
The new version of BHIM supports three additional languages- Bhojpuri, Konkani and Haryanvi.
