March 3, 2015: The Government of India has approved 15GW solar power capacity which will be auctioned over the coming few years.
The auction will be done as a part of the National Solar Mission and the plants for this capacity will come up across various states of the country. The entire auction under the programme will be divided into three capacities – 3GW, 5GW and 7GW.
The auction will be held by NTPC Limited, one of government’s largest power trading arm. Further, NTPC will procure the electricity from the projects which will be set up in future and then supply this solar power bundled with coal-based power to various utilities across the country.
The first auction will be held for the 3GW capacities. This will include the 1GW capacities to be commissioned in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
