Gogoro aims to create a widespread battery-swapping station network at HPCL’s nationwide retail outlets in the future.
Gogoro Inc. has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL), an Indian oil company with over 21,000 retail outlets. This alliance is a significant move towards transforming India’s urban two-wheeler transport by initiating a shift to electric vehicles.
Horace Luke, CEO and founder of Gogoro highlighted the critical role of battery swapping in increasing electric vehicle use in India. As India shifts towards electric mobility, this partnership is expected to be crucial in developing the needed infrastructure.
HPCL plans to use Gogoro’s knowledge to build a strong battery-swapping network for two-wheelers, aiming to create a sustainable, secure, and accessible electric vehicle environment in Indian cities.
Gogoro’s battery-swapping network, which surpasses the number of traditional fuel stations in Taiwan, will be fundamental to this change. The Gogoro Network, with over 1.3 million smart batteries and 12,000 swapping stations across 2,500 locations, has facilitated around 500 million battery swaps, helping to reduce approximately 750,000 tons of CO2 emissions.
