The rooftop project aims to power a textile facility in Madhya Pradesh, which is estimated to save some million kWh of electricity.
Godrej Electricals & Electronics, a business unit of Godrej & Boyce based in Mumbai, announced on Monday the completion of a 12.5 MWp rooftop solar project for a textile facility in Madhya Pradesh.
The initiative will allow the textile facility to leverage renewable energy, covering manufacturing sheds totalling 1 million square feet. According to a statement by Godrej Electricals & Electronics, this adoption is expected to yield an annual savings of approximately 17 million kWh of electricity.
Although no financial details were disclosed, the solar installation claims to be among the largest in the country and represents the first of its kind in the state.
The company noted that it is implementing comparable initiatives across multiple sectors, such as cement, textiles, automotive, and pharmaceuticals.
Raghavendra Mirji, Executive Vice President & Business Head at Godrej Electricals & Electronics, commented that solutions like these will play a crucial role in decarbonising energy-intensive sectors, contributing to job creation and technological leadership, as the country aims to triple its renewable capacity by 2030.
Godrej Electricals & Electronics provides services in electrical, electronics, MEP, compressed air tech, busbar systems, instrumentation, telecom, and automation to meet client energy needs and sustainability goals.
The company also sees this project as important for India’s position as a solar power producer, as the country’s renewable energy sector is experiencing remarkable growth and momentum.
