Goa Electronics Limited (GEL) is working on setting up a helpline for shops and commercial establishments in Goa who want to register for e-banking and e-payment services. An SMS, email and a WhatsApp helpline will be launched for vendors who want to apply for MPoS (Mobile Point of Sale devices) or e-wallet payments.
As per Times of India, a GEL official said that GEL will share the details with banks who can then process the applications.
Ameya Abhyankar, Director of Information and Technology said that all that a vendor has to do is send us an email or a message with the details and we will share that information with the banks. The banks will then approach the vendor and get him on board.
The development comes after defence minister Manohar Parrikar made a statement that Goa would be the first state in the country to go cashless by December 31.
The state government has prepared a blue print to transform Goa into a cashless state by adopting three strategies.
Banks have already commenced a survey across Goa to map the number of vendors present in the state.
Vendors carrying out financial transactions will to be brought under the e-payment mode. The state government has also initiated a consumer education drive in collaboration with all the banks in Goa. The government has also asked all departments to identify cash collection points within the government so that cash transactions can be prepared for e-payments.
The helpline is a set-up by GEL to facilitate shops and establishments who are keen to move their payment systems online.
