The Chinese company will cooperate with Gautam Solar to add 500 MW of tunnel-oxide passivated contact panel production capacity
India’s leading solar company, Gautam Solar recently announced its partnership with Chinese solar equipment company, Jinchen. The Indian player plans to add a 500 MW tunnel-oxide passivated contact (TOPCon) manufacturing line from Jinchen, thus expanding its solar module production capacity to 1 GWp (gigawatt peak). The production from this new line is expected to commence by September this year.
TOPCon is a technology used in the manufacturing of high-efficiency solar cells and it involves the creation of a passivation layer on both sides of the solar cell. It helps to reduce energy losses and increase overall efficiency. The TOPCon technology has gained popularity due to its ability to enhance light absorption and minimize recombination losses, resulting in higher power conversion efficiencies for solar panels.
It is learnt that Gautam Solar will procure the fully automated, n-type TOPCon production line from the Chinese firm. N-type TOPCon cells have the potential to generate around 30% more power than the conventional p-type PERC cells commonly used in solar panel manufacturing.
CEO Gautam Mohanka remarked, “By leveraging Jinchen’s expertise and advanced manufacturing equipment, we aim to meet the growing demand for high-quality solar modules in India and globally.”
Notably, the parties signed this supply deal at SNEC, the 16th International Photovoltaic Power Generation and Smart Energy Conference and Exhibition.
