The main carriage way of Outer Ring Road (ORR) from Gachibowli to Shamshabad, covering a length of 24.38 km, looks clear and brighter at night with inauguration of LED street lights.
It was inaugurated by GHMC mayor B Rammohan on Sunday evening near Nanakaramguda toll plaza.
Lighting can be controlled, monitored by web HMDA commissioner T Chiranjeevulu said that the light-emitting diode (LED) lighting system is provided with GSM-based automation system, web-based management, programming and reporting system. The status of lighting can be controlled and monitored through web from anywhere.
The LED lighting for the entire work including service road and interchanges will be completed by August 2017. The work was entrusted to M/s Philips Lighting India Limited at an estimated cost Rs 300 million.
Chiranjeevulu said that the proposed street light automation system will have dimmer option up to 50 per cent. During low traffic time, power consumption will be reduced to 50 per cent. In case of abnormality like bulb failures, the alarm message will be sent to the concerned person automatically.
The power saving consumption will be 3.13 lakh units and cost saving is Rs 2.6 million per month. Monthly power consumption bill from Gachibowli to Shamshabad will be Rs 2.12 million without dimming or Rs 1.8 million with dimming.
