Frost & Sullivan announced its Green Manufacturing Excellence Awards 2011, during the Green Manufacturing Excellence Summit 2011, held in Mumbai. The idea behind these awards is to focus on enhancing productivity, maintaining global standards and protecting the environment, all of which have been a challenge so far.
According to Raghavendra Rao, senior director, manufacturing and process control practice, Frost & Sullivan, South Asia & Middle East, green manufacturing practices have begun to gain ground in India, but even concepts like lean manufacturing contribute to environmental protection. They have helped companies reduce consumption of resources (raw materials, energy, water, etc) and improve efficiencies in processes.
Some of the awards announced were as follows: Super Achievers—Larsen & Toubro Ltd, Powai Campus; Titan Industries Ltd, Hosur (first runner up); Leaders—JK Lakshmi Cement Ltd, Sirohi; Challengers—Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd: Farm Division—Nagpur, Rudrapur and Kandivli; ACC Ltd-Gagal Cement Works Bilaspur, Bilaspur; and Schneider Electric India Pvt Ltd, Hyderabad; Aspirants—Lucas TVS, Padi; DCM Shriram Industries Ltd, Meerut; Aquamall Water Solutions Ltd, Dehradun; IP Rings Ltd, Maraimalai Nagar; and Green Certificate of Merit—Minda Corporation Ltd, Pant Nagar.
