According to a report by Economic Times, iPhone maker Foxconn said that it may look at extending its manufacturing capabilities to make more ecosystem devices in India for domestic and global needs. It also mentioned that it is awaiting the clarity from the government on the Remission of Duties or Taxes on Export Products (RoDTEP) scheme which will allow Foxconn to drive its mobile plus capacity.
As per the report, Josh Foulger, Foxconn India MD and country head, told the Economic Times that the company will look at all possible opportunities to support its customers. He added that the company is committed to making in India and will continue to look at evaluating various options while moving forward.
Next 36 months will be crucial for India
Foulger also told Economic Times that the next 36 months will be crucial for India in terms of technology with the emergence of the Internet of Things (IoT), big data and artificial intelligence. He added that mobile phones and all ecosystem products will be propelled by 5G. He further said that in terms of the RoDTEP scheme, the government is proactively seeking inputs from the industry. Foxconn has already provided its inputs through the Indian Cellular and Electronics Association of India (ICEA).
Foxconn has recently expanded its Sri city facility for Xiaomi to meet the demand for its phones in India. The two companies are exploring if their association in India could be extended to internet ecosystem products.
