Foxconn Hires Former Nidec CEO As Strategy Chief For EVs

Foxconn Technology group’s latest hire has decades of experience in the automotive industry with names such as Nissan and Dongfeng Motors in his portfolio.

Foxconn Technology Group named former Nidec Corp. chief executive officer Jun Seki as the chief strategy officer of its electric vehicle (EV) venture.

This is the first high-profile hire for the iPhone manufacturer in a bid to strengthen the company’s automotive aspirations. Foxconn has been eyeing the automotive sector for quite some time. It acquired a pickup assembly plant from embattled Lordstown Motors Corp. and showcased several prototypes.

“Foxconn will lean on Mr Seki to help operate the group’s EV sites in the Americas, Asia and the Middle East,” the company said in a statement.

Seki left Nidec last year after working there for almost three years with the world’s biggest manufacturer of electric motors. He was demoted from his position as CEO by company founder Shigenobu Nagamori after the latter blamed him for the company’s deteriorating earnings results.

Seki had been recruited to Nidec from Nissan Motor Co. as Nidec eyed expanding its automotive business. Seki worked with Nissan for almost 30 years and was widely viewed as the top contender for the top position which was later passed on to current CEO Makoto Uchida.

Seki has also worked with China’s Dongfeng Motor Co.

Foxconn, whose parent is called Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd., trading as Hon Hai Technology Group in China and Taiwan and Foxconn internationally, is a Taiwanese multinational electronics contract manufacturer established in 1974 with headquarters in Tucheng, New Taipei City, Taiwan.
