Taiwan’s electronic manufacturing services (EMS) giant Foxconn is considering Odisha’s Gopalpur to set up one of their manufacturing units. Foxconn had committed in 2015 that the company will open 12 manufacturing unit in the country and help create one million jobs.
According to Business Standard, a team of Foxconn visited the industrial park at Gopalpur where Tata Steel is the anchor tenant. The park is spread over 3,500 acres of land.
Pranab Prakash Das, Odisha’s minister for electronics and information technology has confirmed that Foxconn has visited the industrial park at Gopalpur and has shown interest to put up a facility. The company has asked for 1,000 acres of land. The location has surplus land and it can be offered to Foxconn.
According to an industry source, “Foxconn officials had evinced interest in visiting Odisha and explore the opportunities during a state delegation visit to Taiwan to attract investments in the electronic system design and manufacturing (ESDM) sector in October 2015.
Odisha government is trying to encourage electronic manufacturing in the country and if Foxconn comes to the state it will be a big win for them. This also may lead to other bigger electronics player to open manufacturing units in their state.
