As per a research, global EV shipments grew during the first quarter of 2022.The shipments exceeded 1.95 million units, showing a 79%increase YoY. Battery Electric Vehicles(BEVs) occupy 73% of the increase while the rest is from plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs).
In terms of geography for EV shipments, China remains the market leader, followed by Europe and the US. China’s EV shipments increased 126% YoY in Q1 2022.
Post operations Shanghai Gigafactory in 2019, Tesla’s shipments grew 68% YoY and is expected to cross 1.3 million units by the end of 2022. The Europe sales are also likely to increase, with the Berlin Gigafactory becoming operational in March.
Shipments for BYD Auto increased by a whooping 433% YoY to reach more than 0.28 million units, followed by BMW and Volkswagen. Wuling, the joint venture between SAIC, GM and Wuling, achieved a high number just by operating across China and Indonesia.
