Ericsson will supply hardware and software from its market-ready 5G platform across all spectrum bands to T-Mobile
Ericsson – Swedish telecom maker has bagged a 5G network deployment contract worth $3.5 billion from the US carrier T-Mobile. The contract will execute the development of LTE in combination with new radio-access technologies. The official deal promises to deliver high data speeds, low latency, reliability, energy efficiency and device densities.
Deployment of 5G network nationwide
Ericsson will execute a nationwide 5G network deployment and will provide T-Mobile with the latest 5G New Radio (NR) hardware and software compliant with 3GPP standards. Bridging from a nationwide LTE Advanced network to 5G, T-Mobile will leverage Ericsson’s 5G portfolio to expand existing LTE capacity needs while future-proofing the network.
The deal also encircles Ericsson’s digital services solutions, including dynamic orchestration, business support systems (BSS) and Ericsson Cloud Core. It will ultimately enable T-Mobile to launch innovative and groundbreaking 5G experiences to customers. Under the terms of the new deal, Ericsson will supply hardware and software from its market-ready 5G platform across all spectrum bands available to T-Mobile.
Ericsson will increase its investment in the US
Niklas Heuveldop, President and Head of Ericsson North America, told that the company had decided to increase its investments in the US to be closer to customers. He mentioned that the company also planned to support their accelerated 5G deployments thereby bringing 5G to life for consumers and enterprises across the country.
This partnering agreement will support T-Mobile to strengthen, expand and speed up the deployment of their nationwide 5G network. Ericsson told that T-Mobile has already installed base of Ericsson Radio System and radios will be able to run 5G NR technology with simple remote software installation. Furthermore, the agreement marks a major milestone for both the companies in the new era of telecom.
