DTA status puts Sanmina in a better position to support the ‘Make in India’ initiative, and enables it to offer end-to-end solutions to a wider range of customers
Sanmina Corporation announced that it has acquired the Domestic Tariff Area (DTA) status for its manufacturing unit in the Hi-Tech Special Economic Zone (SEZ) of Oragadam town on the outskirts of Chennai.
Now, the American Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) provider has both SEZ and DTA status, which enable it to manufacture and deliver products for domestic as well as overseas markets, with nil customs duty. This will also enable the company to support the Indian government’s ambitious ‘Make in India’ scheme, meant to encourage manufacturing of products in the country.
Commenting on the development, Elan Chelian, Managing Director and VP of Sanmina’s Chennai facility, said, “DTA status makes our world-class manufacturing and technology solutions more attractive to both domestic and global customers with a presence in India.”
Mike Landy, EVP and COO – Integrated Manufacturing Solutions, Asia and Europe, Sanmina, added, “India has been a strategic location for Sanmina for 10 years. DTA status better positions Sanmina to support the ‘Make in India’ initiative and enables us to offer Sanmina’s end-to-end solutions to a wider range of customers.”
