The Electronics Sector Skill Council of India (ESSCI), a Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) initiative, has received the first tranche of equity contribution from ELCINA, International Computer Security Association (ICSA) and Manufacturers Association for Information Technology (MAIT). The council will focus on developing skills in industry verticals like consumer electronics, IT and office automation(OA), solar photovoltaic, strategic electronics, telecom components, industrial electronics, semiconductor design, including chip design and embedded software. At a recent meeting held to review the progress of the council, Rajoo Goel, secretary general, ELCINA, indicated that ESSCI would undertake pilot projects based on the study in the initial period of one year or so, for occupations such as production, service support and semiconductor.
He stated that a workforce of around 5000 would be imparted skills and certification during the pilot phase, and that these skills would reach around 0.65 millionpersons yearly by 2020.
