Wednesday, December 03, 2014: The first Electronic Park in Kerala at Kakkanad is going to receive its final approval from Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) and this park is expected to garner investments of more than Rs 5,000 million in hardware sector. Thousands of job opportunities will also be created with the park.
This Electronic Park will be the third one in India to receive support from DeitY. Other two parks, which have been sanctioned, are located in Bhopal and Jabalpur. DeitY scientist Neetesh Gupta said that final explanations on the project are awaited from the state government and as soon as the final clarifications are received, they will also give their final nod for the project. The Electronic Park project has received funding of Rs 1,290 million from Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (KINFRA).
This park is going to be a part of Electronic Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) on 60 acres of land in Kakkanad. The park will be set up following the public-private-partnership model. The Centre will also support up to Rs 500 million for the project. The park will have some basic infrastructure along with other support facilities like electronics labs and more.
Former managing director of KINFRA S. Ramnath submitted the proposal for the park and he said that the EMC was expected to be commissioned during the financial year of 2015-16. Some private firms have also stepped forward to tie up with KINFRA for the EMC. DeitY joint secretary Ajay Kumar is also playing a key role to sanction the EMC in Kerala.
