This includes advancing the Advanced Air Mobility ecosystem and conducting feasibility studies for new eVTOL-related business ventures in the state.
SkyDrive Inc., a leading Japanese eVTOL (electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing) aircraft manufacturer, has formed a strategic partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DST) in Gujarat, India. This collaboration is set to revolutionise the landscape of eVTOL aircraft operations in the state, with an operational goal set for 2027.
The partnership focuses on developing the necessary ecosystem for the social implementation of eVTOL aircraft in Gujarat. This includes advancing the Advanced Air Mobility ecosystem and conducting feasibility studies for new eVTOL-related business ventures in the state.
This partnership marks SkyDrive’s expansion into the Indian market, a significant step given India’s rapidly growing technology and transportation sectors. If successful, the Gujarat eVTOL initiative could serve as a model for other states and countries looking to adopt similar advanced air mobility solutions.
SkyDrive has also secured additional Series C funding through new shares allotted to Suzuki Motor Corporation. This investment is expected to boost the development and manufacturing of SkyDrive’s eVTOL aircraft. SkyDrive and Suzuki jointly participated in the Global Trade Show, held during the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024, showcasing their eVTOL technology, including a 1/5 scale model of the SKYDRIVE (SD-05).
Established in July 2018, SkyDrive aims to lead the mobility revolution. The company plans to commence the production of ‘SKYDRIVE’ in Spring 2024 at a plant owned by Suzuki Motor Company in Toyota, Aichi Prefecture. eVTOL aircraft offer a sustainable transportation option, which can significantly reduce carbon emissions and contribute to cleaner air in urban areas.
