Dixon is the second contract manufacturer for Google in India, following Foxconn subsidiary Wow Tech, which produces Pixel phones at its Chennai facility.
The largest home-grown electronics contract manufacturer, Dixon Technologies, has announced a partnership with Taiwan’s Compal Electronics to produce Google Pixel smartphones in India. Media reports stated that the mass production has commenced at Dixon’s subsidiary, Padget Electronics, located in Noida.
This collaboration aims to enhance Google’s presence in India’s premium smartphone market, positioning it against competitors like Samsung and Apple. Dixon is Google’s second contract manufacturer in India, following Foxconn subsidiary Wow Tech, which produces Pixel phones at its Chennai facility. The partnership also underscores India’s growing role in electronics manufacturing, aligning with the government’s “Make in India” initiative. Dixon plans to leverage its state-of-the-art facilities and workforce to deliver high-quality products to domestic and global markets.
Dixon Technologies’ stock surged after the announcement, reaching a 52-week high. Analysts, including those from Nomura, have expressed optimism about the company’s growth prospects due to this development. This move is expected to boost India’s electronics manufacturing sector and increase the availability of Google Pixel smartphones in the country.
Atul Lall, Managing Director of Dixon Technologies, emphasized the significance of the partnership with Google and Compal Electronics, stating that this is a significant opportunity for Dixon and marks an exciting step in our growth and commitment to delivering cutting-edge, high-quality products to global and domestic markets. Dixon will leverage its state-of-the-art facilities, effective manufacturing techniques, and workforce through this launch.
In August 2024, Google began rolling out its locally manufactured Pixel 8 smartphones in India, aligning with its strategy to expand in the country’s premium smartphone segment. This move is part of Google’s goal to ship over 10 million Pixel phones globally in 2024, building upon the approximately 10 million units shipped in 2023. Compal Electronics, a Taiwanese original design manufacturer, is a global manufacturing partner for Google products. Padget Electronics, a subsidiary of Dixon Technologies, benefits from the Indian government’s production-linked incentive scheme for mobile phones, which aims to boost local manufacturing.
