The Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) has announced that it will come out with a defined timeline and cost estimates for achieving various objectives of the National Policy on Information Technology (NPIT) 2012 by this December.
The policy sets multiple objectives for the development of the IT sector, including increasing the revenue of the IT and IT-enabled services (ITes) industry from US$ 100 billion to US$ 300 billion by 2020, and expanding exports from US$ 69 billion to US$ 200 billion over the same period.
Under NPIT, the government aims to create a pool of 10 million additional skilled manpower in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector. It also aims to produce 3,000 PhDs in the field of ICTs every year by 2020.
