Nvidia’s upcoming Blackwell AI chip could be delayed for three months due to design flaws, but production for the second half of the year stays on track.
Tech-focused publication The Information said on Friday that design flaws could delay the launch of chip giant Nvidia’s upcoming artificial intelligence chips by three months or more.
The delay, estimated to be around three months or even more. This potential setback could directly impact some of Nvidia’s biggest customers, including Meta, Google, and Microsoft. This delay could have a significant impact on their operations, as it means that big shipments can’t be expected until the first quarter of 2025.
All these tech giants have collectively ordered tens of billions of dollars worth of chips from Nvidia.
An official from Nvidia highlighted that the demand for Hopper is very high, broad Blackwell sampling has started, and production is on track to ramp in the second half.
The Information said Nvidia informed Microsoft and another major cloud service provider this week of a delay in the production of its most advanced AI chip in the Blackwell series, citing a Microsoft employee and another person with knowledge of the matter.
