Dell Technologies announces significant restructuring, introducing a new AI-focused unit, reducing workforce by 10%, boosting AI innovation and enhancing efficiency across the company.
Dell Technologies has unveiled a major strategic shift in its plan to modernise operations and pivot towards artificial intelligence (AI). In an internal memo dated August 6, the company revealed significant changes to its sales division, including a reorganisation impacting approximately 12,500 employees or about 10% of its workforce.
The restructuring primarily affects managers and senior managers, some of whom have been with Dell for over two decades. The changes include centralising sales teams and establishing a new AI-focused sales unit.
This unit is designed to enhance Dell’s capabilities in the rapidly growing field of artificial intelligence, which is a strategic move to ensure the company’s competitiveness and future growth.
The memo, authored by senior executives Bill Scannell and John Byrne and titled “Global Sales Modernization Update,” outlines Dell’s strategy to streamline management layers and shift its focus towards AI-driven solutions.
This reorganisation is part of a broader effort to reprioritise investments and improve operational efficiency.
In addition to the sales division overhaul, Dell is also restructuring its marketing and operations sectors. This adjustment has increased the manager-to-employee ratio, with each manager now overseeing at least 15 employees.
Despite the challenging news for many employees, Dell is committed to supporting those affected. The company has pledged to assist with the transition and explore new opportunities for impacted workers.
