Dell EMC, the IT infrastructure behemoth that provides solutions in servers, storage, computers, virtualisation and security, plans to venture into the Internet of Things (IoT) with their products, solutions and partner ecosystem.
Earlier, Michael Dell, chief of Dell Technologies, spoke about plans of opening a new IoT division to create more products that might augur well for the edge computing market. He was speaking at a conference in Atlanta. There were even reports of $1 billion investment in the company’s IoT plans for the coming three years.
Speaking to ET, Rajesh Janey, president and MD, India Enterprise, Dell EMC, said IoT has to be a structure and combination of product, framework and approach. Dell Technologies will provide the underlying technology infrastructure that drives Internet of Things. “We’re creating a distributed model of intelligence and prioritising the push for intelligence closer to the edge so that actions can be taken instantly. We’re focused on enabling the practical implementation of artificial intelligence to enhance machine learning at the edge and the deep learning that takes place in the data centre which elevates the IQ of all connected machines.”
Janey claimed that the collective capabilities of Dell Technologies and the combined innovations of Dell, Dell EMC, Pivotal, RSA, SecureWorks, Virtustream and VMware has created a broad IoT infrastructure portfolio including hardware, software, services, and solutions to monitor, manage, secure and code software for the entire environment.
Apart from the influx of billions of IoT devices, cyber security of these connected devices become paramount as can be gauged by the DDoS attacks across the world which caused shutdowns where IoT devices were attacked by botnets. Janey claimed that they are building security inherently in all layers of edge, core and cloud infrastructure without giving further details on the same.
