This capital acquisition of defence equipment is conducted as per the extant Defence Procurement Procedure (DPP). DPP-2016 aims to give boost to ‘Make in India’ initiative and focuses on institutionalizing, streamlining and simplifying defence procurement procedure by promoting indigenous design, development and manufacture of defence equipment, platforms, systems and sub-systems.
The statement also read that the government announced the policy of Strategic Partnership in the defence sector to encourage private sector to participate in manufacturing of defence equipment in four selected segments: Submarines, Helicopters, Fighter Aircraft, and Armoured Fighting Vehicles/Tanks.
