CtrlS, a leading technology infrastructure provider based in Hyderabad, is planning an investment of Rs 2,000 crore for setting up the largest Tier-4 data centre footprint in India by the year 2020.
According to a PTI report, CtrlS is planning to establish 150 megawatt (MW) hyperscale data centre in Hyderabad, spread across 2 million sq.ft. In addition, the company also plans a 70 MW similar facility in Chennai and a 100 MW in Mumbai – each spread over one million sq. ft.
Data storage demand in India
Sridhar Pinnapureddy, Founder and CEO, CtrlS Datacenters, said that the data storage demand has immensely increased in India and data localisation is creating enormous demand for hyperscale data centre in the country.
The news agency quoted Pinnapureddy as saying: “We will start building new Tier-4 data centre in Mumbai from March, Hyderabad facility from around May-June and Chennai in last quarter of 2019. Total investment will be around Rs 2,000 crore.”
All the data centres are likely to be operational in 2020, he added.
A Tier-4 data centre is designed to host mission critical computer systems and servers, having fully redundant subsystems and assures 99.995 per cent uptime implying highest of 26 minutes downtime in a year. The Tier-4 data centre requires nearly double the investment as compared to Tier-3 data centre, which can have downtime of around few hours in a year.

CtrlS already owns 1 million sq. ft. datacenters, including two Tier-4 facilities in Hyderabad, two Tier-4 facilities in Mumbai, one tier-3 datacenter in Chennai and Tier-4 in Noida.
As per a Cushman and Wakefield report, India is estimated to be a US$ 7 billion data centre market by 2020. The country’s 350 million smartphone users, 224 million digital buyers and 258 million social media users are also contributing to the growth of data.
