Tuesday, May 20, 2014: After having completed five solar projects in India totalling 18MW, German PV manufacturer and developer, IBC Solar has now begun construction of a 5.5MW solar power plant in Bhadla, in Jodhpur district of Rajasthan. The proposed solar power plant is being constructed on government land spanning 10,000 hectares leased to investors as part of the ‘Invest Rajasthan’ initiative and is expected to be completed by June 2014. IBC Solar will be delivering engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC), using its local subsidiary for the ambitious project.
Notably, the state of Rajasthan enjoys nearly 300-330 sunny days a year and is a leading torch bearer of India’s national solar mission courtesy its upcoming giga-watt, mega solar power plants. However, according to IBC Solar the location chosen for the construction of the plant will be topographically and logistically demanding owing to its low rainfall. The developers are planning to use under-reamed fundaments to overcome lose sand foundations in the area. Meanwhile, IBC is also planning to install decentralised inverters to make use of shade and protection from the harsh desert climate.
“To ensure an effective transfer of knowledge, especially in emerging markets like India IBC Solar is also including as many local workers and specialists as possible in the construction phase in Bhadla.” Reinhard Ling, business manager at IBC Solar in Mumbai was quoted as saying by pv-tech. Furthermore, the government of Rajasthan will also install a grid substation so as to receive the energy generated by the new plant.
