Comio India CEO and Director Sanjay Kalirona has already intimated Comio’s local partners and government authorities about all the hardships Comio is facing
Comio, a China based smartphone vendor that had entered the Indian mobile phone market just last year, will be shutting down its operations in the country. The decision to shut down operations have been taken owing to issues with Chinese promoters. Built by Topwise Communication, Comio was aiming to sell a million units of smartphones in India.
Several media reports have claimed that Comio India CEO and Director Sanjay Kalirona has already intimated Comio’s local partners and government authorities about all the hardships Comio is facing as a result of no support from its Chinese promoters.
An email sent by the Sanjay Kalirona to Comio partners reads, “In the current situation, it is very difficult to sustain if as a company we cannot make competitive product so we lost here completely. Chinese promoters also not supported us with enough capital investment to sustain in this competitive market condition.”
He has also pointed out that the China based company failed to learn from its past mistakes and hence all its partners started losing confidence in the brand. The toll free support number mentioned on the Comio India website is also not working.
Chinese team members left India abruptly
Kalirona claims that the Chinese team members working in the Comio India team left India abruptly during first week of November and asked the Comio India team to shut all operations immediately. However, as per the email Kalirona had decided and the China based management had decided to shut down India operations in a planned manner. The plan included settling all issues and paying dues to its creditors. Kalirona’s team has also filed a police complaint regarding the same issue.
He said, “I am trying my level best in my best possible capacity to support all channel partners and team to get their dues cleared. I have given one-time price support to all partners to liquidate their stocks. We also cleared all schemes and pay out of distributors till October 2018. We also billed stock to all partners against their credit balance in appearing in our books. Even in this situation, we are running 400 TCSA to help partners to liquidate their stocks. We are smoothly running after sales services and clearing all DOA of partners.”
Comio, after its entry into the India smartphone market, was aiming to sell around one million units of Comio branded smartphones in India by March 2018. However, the company was able to sell about nine lakh smartphones during its one-year journey in the country.
