Tuesday, February 04, 2014: China-based Guangzhou Jcar Industrial Company Ltd is planning to enter India’s solar-powered vehicle market and will showcase its products during the upcoming Auto Expo-2014. Guangzhou Jcar Industrial Company Ltd is known for developing solar-powered scooters and cars back in China.
The four-day Auto Expo-2014 will commence on 6 February at the Pragati Maidan in New Delhi and in Greater Noida. “We are going to participate in the India auto fair for the first time,” Guangzhou Jcar Industrial Company Ltd’s marketing head Monica Leung was quoted as saying. The company that boasts of a wide network of distributors in China is looking forward to showcase its scooters, three-wheelers and cars (all solar-powered) here.
“Of course, India has a big potential for solar vehicles as most parts of India like China receives more than 300 days of sunlight. The market of solar vehicles is yet to be tapped in India,” Leung added. One of the company’s product is a three-wheeler that can carry a load of up to 400 kg and covers a range of up to 70 km on a single battery charge of 5-12 hours. The vehicle has a maximum speed of 35 km per hour. It will come in four models with motor power ranging from 500 W to 1,200 W. Life expectancy will be about 25 years. Prices start from $1,323 (Rs 83,000).
