In a conversation with Srabani Sen of Electronics Bazaar, Sunil Hasija, managing director, Elektronika Sales Pvt Ltd, talks about the Chennai electronics market and the company’s strategy to stay ahead in this competitive environment.
EB: How is the Chennai market for electronics doing?
Chennai is home to one of India’s most successful electronics SEZ, which is located at Sriperumbudur, on the outskirts of the city. The success of 12 such operational SEZs continues to attract a lot of investments in the city’s electronics and related industries. Value added manufacturing in SEZ and export zones with modern facilities to meet global demand and expectations, the availability of test labs with international-standard facilities and the presence of reputed design houses are all factors working in favour of Chennai.
EB: Which niche segments of the electronics sector are doing well in Chennai?
Chennai has witnessed major growth in electronic products like small power transformers, ferrite transformers, UPS systems, stabilisers, plastic moulds and dies, machined components, LED products, etc. The city’s electronics market scenario has registered a year-on-year growth of 20 per cent.
EB: What is your company’s strategy to stay ahead of your competitors?
It is our total and unrelenting focus on growth that enables the company to scale the heights of success. Elektronika Sales, which so far had restricted itself to selling to the pan India market, will now be an active player in the global market. It is my firm conviction that growth is only possible through value addition and by delivering to customers. For this, the marketing arm of our company is in close touch with our customers to comprehend their needs and requirements and deliver the best possible solutions.
Over the past three decades, we have kept adding new lines with flexible business modules and set ourselves the goal of becoming one of the world’s leading electronics players. I am happy that our customers have stayed with us for decades.
EB: What are your company’s strengths, which have helped in its growth?
A significant percentage of our team of 100 employees have been with the company for 25 years or more and half have been with the company for 15 years. This speaks volumes about the work environment and employee relations within the company. This significantly helps in the growth of the firm.
We are also into the finished goods business, where we distribute Samsung LCDs, Casio cameras, apart from washing machines and DTH systems of other brands. This is as per the strategy of Elektronika to grow in different verticals. With our strong focus on quality and competency, Elektronika takes the lead in innovation, and that’s our strength. It helps in keeping us ahead of our competitors.
