Saturday, August 16, 2014: Chennai-based ReGen Powertech, wind turbine manufacturer, has announced that they are planning to diversify their projects into renewable energy sector in collaboration with their German partner Vensys. This new partnership will lead to creation of mega-watt solar inverters.
Joint managing director R Sundaresh told reporters, “The company would soon come out with hybrid inverter for wind and solar power generation.” He continued, “The solar inverters will be made at the company’s existing factories at Tada in Andhra Pradesh and Udaipur in Rajasthan where 1.5 MW wind turbines are made with Vensys technology.”
Inverters help convert variable direct current (DC) into utility frequency. This DC is generated by renewable power plants like wind and solar. This conversion is done by alternating current (AC) which could be fed into a power grid. Solar division’s head, Anirudh Khemka, said, that the company’s focus will remain on large solar projects and the cost of the inverter will depend on the configuration, as required by the buyer. He said, “Going forward, ReGen would come out with hybrid inverters targeting the wind and solar power sectors.”
Madhusudan Khmeka, managing director, said, “No major additional investment is involved for the project as we will be making the product at the existing factories. The product is also largely similar to the inverters we make for wind power sector.” Technology is being provided by the German group, Vensys, to make these gearless wind turbines. ReGen plans to make three classes of solar inverters – 1 MW, 1.5 MW and 2 MW.
