LED bulbs will be sold at competitive prices at EB offices soon. This is a Central scheme that will be implemented across Tamil Nadu by Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL), a joint venture company of PSUs of the Ministry of Power, Government of India.
This scheme has already been implemented across India, expect in Tamilnadu, in order to promote energy saving. These LED bulbs consume less electricity and produce more light in comparison to other light bulbs. This will help save electricity in the long run.
Currently, in Tamilnadu, LED bulbs are being used only by the Railways, which have been useful in reducing power consumption. A total of 61,018 LED bulbs have been fixed in all Railway stations in the State.
To help the State join the rest of the country in switching over to LED lights under the UJALA (Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All) scheme of the Central government, and to further improve the present scenario, LED lights will be sold at all EB offices in Tamilnadu by EESL.
EESL will set up stalls in the electricity board offices where people can purchase the bulbs at cheaper rates. But the exact price of the bulb is yet to be finalised for sale in Tamilnadu.
Although the rates for setting up the stalls in Tamilnadu have not been decided upon, the electricity board, which has agreed to the principle of EESL setting up of stalls at its premises.
