Wednesday, June 11, 2014: Looks like government’s initiatives to push domestic manufacturing are bearing fruits. In the latest, Champion, a home grown mobile and IT company, has plans to set up its manufacturing facility for mobile devices in Himachal Pradesh. The company will commence the manufacturing of mobile phones by the end of this month, followed by manufacturing of tablet devices.
Champion had entered a strategic alliance with BSNL last year to introduce series of new mobile computing devices including smart phones, tablets, data cards and wireless networking products. The company has already been able to sell 100,000 devices so far.
Commenting on the new development, Kapil Wadhwa, Champion Computers Pvt. Ltd. Said “With the growing demands and constantly evolving market, commencing of our own facility will assist us to have an edge over the competitors. Post our association with BSNL this would be another step ahead to establish ourselves further in the country. Our facility will be operational from June end and we expect to manufacture 1lakh units per month in the initial phase. We are targeting to triple it by the end of the year.” In addition, the company plans to launch 3-4 devices every month after the commencement of the manufacturing unit.
