China-based automobiles and electronics company BYD is planning to invest around Rs 2,800 crore in Tamil Nadu to set up a unit for manufacturing phone components. The facility is likely to provide jobs to 11,500 persons.
BYD is also manufactures electric buses, trucks and other vehicles. Its domestic arm was established in March 2007 in Chennai. The company also has an office in New Delhi.The Indian subsidiary of the company has two factories covering more than 140,000 square metres with a combined investment of over $150 million.
Electric vehicles and batteries
In terms of its business in India, BYD covers mobile components, solar panels, battery energy storage, electric buses and trucks, electric forklifts, chargers, and rail transit. Other than phone components, the company will also manufacture electric vehicles and batteries.
