The company is targeting family buyers and fleet operators with its new six- and seven-seater all-electric MPV, which is the successor to the previous E6 MPV. This latest model is designed to meet their needs for space, features, and comfort.
BYD India has unveiled the EMax7 MPV, available for purchase between Rs 26.90 lakh and Rs 29.90 lakh, ex-showroom. This model succeeds the E6 MPV, which was introduced as the brand’s first offering in India in 2021.
Spanning 4.7 meters in length and boasting a 2,800mm wheelbase, the eMax7 provides a roomy interior that can accommodate six or seven people, including the driver. BYD India targets this new MPV at families and fleet operators who prioritize space, features, and comfort.
Available in Premium and Superior variants, the eMax7 promises ranges of 420km and 530km, respectively. Rajeev Chauhan, VP of Electric Passenger Vehicle Business at BYD India, emphasized the vehicle’s alignment with consumer demands in the electric vehicle (EV) sector, incorporating feedback from the E6 to deliver an enhanced product.
The eMax7 offers two battery options: a 55.4kWh blade battery for the Premium model and a larger 71.8kWh battery for the Superior model. The latter drives a motor mounted on the front axle, producing 200hp and 310Nm of peak torque.
The vehicle’s exterior is sleek, and the interior is equipped with several luxury amenities. It features ventilated front seats, a driver’s seat with 6-way electrical adjustment, 60:40 split functionality for the second-row seats, and ambient lighting throughout the cabin. A large panoramic glass roof enhances the internal atmosphere.
The cockpit is equipped with a fully digital instrument cluster and a 12.8-inch rotatable infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless phone charger, a PM2.5 air filtration system, and AC vents that extend to the third row. The eMax7 comes standard with six airbags and radar-based ADAS features like adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning.
A standout feature of the eMax7 is its blade-cell battery, notable for its honeycomb structure that provides enhanced structural safety. This technology has been pivotal since its introduction in 2020, marking a significant advancement in the EV industry.
Complementing this is an ‘8-in-1’ powertrain that integrates mechanical, electrical, and electronic components into a single assembly. This package includes a 150kW e-motor and various electronics, all consolidated to optimize space and efficiency.
BYD India offers a 7.7kW charger with installation at the purchaser’s location and warranties of eight years or 160,000km for the battery pack and six years for the power electronics.
BYD India outlined its optimistic outlook for growth, having achieved significant sales in the initial months of 2024. The company, which entered the Indian market in 2007 and launched its first commercial e-bus in 2013, continues to expand its lineup. It plans to set up a comprehensive manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu and is considering launching a midsize SUV in the Rs 15-25 lakh range by the second half of 2025. BYD, a leading global EV manufacturer, anticipates reaching a sales milestone of 10 million units by November 2024, with a broader goal of contributing to global climate change mitigation efforts.
