State-owned telecom provider BSNL has signed an agreement with Internet of Things (IoT) solutions company Aeris to “offer packaged IoT solutions and services to enterprises, small and medium businesses and public sector undertakings among other segments in India.”
Apparently, the areas BSNL and Aeris will be looking at include “improving supply chain efficiency, enhancing customer experience, tracking and monitoring assets, improving logistics and empowering smart cities.
The IoT solutions and platform services that Aeris offers include:
- Asset Management– asset analytics for IoT connectivity aimed at OEMs, fleet rental, leasing, and finance organizations.
- Automotive Services– customize connected vehicle solutions.
- Data Management– store and manage data in a highly scalable and secure environment.
- Connectivity– solution is carrier agnostic and pre-configured, with certified hardware that provides GSM, CDMA, and LTE connectivity.
- AerPort– single portal for managing global deployments, including device management oversight, provisioning, billing activation, VPN, location and tracking capabilities, suspending or canceling devices, and access to customer support.
Earlier this year, the Department of Telecom (DoT) had amended switching equipment regulations to allow telecom companies to install Media Gateway Controllers (MGCs) and SoftSwitches anywhere within the country’s geographical limits, as opposed to the earlier regulation which allowed deployment within “geographical boundaries” of the authorized telecom circle limits. According to the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), this amendment will ease deployment of IoT and Machine-to-Machine (M2M) dedicated networks in the country.
