Brose has created its own Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS) that produces artificial driving sounds at speeds under 50 kph.
Automotive supplier Brose is broadening its range of products by introducing an acoustic warning system specifically designed for electrified vehicles. The family-owned business plans to outfit several million electric and hybrid vehicles across Europe and North America with this new system by the year 2026.
Electrified vehicles are known for their near-silent operation when starting off and travelling at low speeds, which poses a risk as other road users may not hear an approaching vehicle until it is very close. Consequently, there are global legal mandates requiring the installation of such warning systems to enhance road safety.
To address this need, Brose has engineered its own Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS), which produces artificial driving noises at speeds below 50 km/h. Leveraging its profound expertise in acoustics and electronics, gained from projects such as developing sound boxes for door modules, Brose has created a system capable of a broad frequency range from 200 to 5,000 hertz. This range allows for the production of high-quality sounds and the ability to design custom sound profiles. The development of this system was expedited through the use of cutting-edge simulation tools, enabling completion within just a few months.
