BMW has started taking bookings, with deliveries scheduled to commence in September.
BMW has introduced the CE 04 in India, priced at Rs 14.90 lakh (ex-showroom), making it the costliest scooter and electric two-wheeler currently available in the market.
The CE 04 is equipped with an 8.5kWh battery that offers a range of up to 130km. Buyers can choose between a standard 2.3kW charger and an optional 6.9kW fast charger. A full charge takes approximately 4 hours and 20 minutes with the standard charger and just 1 hour and 40 minutes with the fast charger.
The scooter is powered by a liquid-cooled permanent magnet motor, which is relatively uncommon in India. It delivers a maximum output of 31kW (42hp) and 62Nm of torque. This motor drives the rear wheel through a belt final drive and operates with a single-sided swingarm. BMW claims the CE 04 can accelerate from 0 to 50kph in only 2.6 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 120kph.
Structurally, the CE 04 features a steel double-loop frame, a telescopic fork, and an offset mono-shock. It employs twin 265mm front discs with J.Juan radially-mounted 4-piston callipers and a single 265mm rear disc with an axial calliper for braking.
The wheels measure 15 inches in diameter, which are among the largest for scooters in India, and the tyre sizes are comparable to those on a middleweight sportbike: 120/70-R15 at the front and 160/60-R15 at the rear. Despite its relatively low seat height of 780mm, the CE 04’s kerb weight is nearly 231kg, similar to the new R 1300 GS.
Standard features include all-LED lighting, a 10.25-inch TFT display compatible with Bluetooth, keyless ignition, three riding modes (Eco, Rain, Road), ABS, switchable traction control, a main stand, and a reverse mode. It also includes a ventilated storage compartment with a USB-C charger and a side-mounted storage compartment with lighting. It is available in two colours: blue and white.
BMW offers a wide range of accessories for the CE 04, including different seats, additional electronic features, and a taller windscreen.
Bookings for the CE 04 are now open, with deliveries slated to begin in September. This positions the CE 04 alongside other premium scooters like the Vespa 946 Dragon Edition and the petrol-powered C 400 GT. BMW Motorrad has announced a total of eight new launches this year, with two more models expected to arrive in India.
In comparison, the Ultraviolette F77 Mach 2 Recon electric bike, priced significantly lower at Rs 3.99 lakh, offers similar power but boasts greater torque and range, presenting a compelling alternative to the premium-priced CE 04.
