February 13, 2015: Binatone Communications Group, a Hong Kong based firm, is planning to start manufacturing routers and broadband connectivity instruments in India. Reports say that an investment of up to $50 million will be done for setting up a manufacturing unit.
While speaking to ET, Binatone chairman Dino Lalvani said that the business generated from India is doubling itself each year and therefore, a decision has been taken to develop a plant here.
He added that making in India will offer logistic support and India is an option for setting up manufacturing unit and doing business since labour costs in China are rising at a fast pace.
Binatone is one of the primary suppliers of Customer premises equipment or CPE and routers to telecom giants like Bharti Airtel, Tata, MTS and MTNL. Currently, these CPEs are manufactured in China.
The company is considering three to four locations for setting up a plant, which include Rajasthan and Greater Noida. The final call on location will be taken soon. The load from China will eventually be taken off once the plant starts production. Also, the company is planning to add more products for manufacturing and will start exporting from the country.
