- Space-grade Li-Ion cells manufactured by BHEL will be utilised for meeting the national requirements only
According to a report by PV magazine, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has transferred its indigenous space-grade li-ion cell production technology to Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL). BHEL is in the process of setting up its li-ion production facility near Bangalore in Karnataka. Equipment, both indigenous and imported to set up the facility have been procured and are being commissioned.
The technology transfer agreement for the Li-ion cell production technology was signed between ISRO and BHEL in March 2018. The production at BHEL aims to meet li-ion cell requirements for ISRO and other sectors.
Hands-on training
The report also said that Dr Jitendra Singh, union minister of atomic energy and space said that ISRO has already provided all technical documentation for establishing the production plant. He added that ISRO also gave hands-on training in various production activities to BHEL staff at ISRO’s facilities.
As per the report,the Technology Transfer Agreement said that space-grade li-ion cells manufactured by BHEL will be utilised for meeting the national requirements only. It also said that BHEL can also sell the space-grade li-ion cells to parties outside India after obtaining prior written consent from ISRO.
