According to a report by the Economic Times, GlobalData has forecasted that the Asia Pacific (APAC) region will lead 5G adoption. It will have 65 per cent of global 5G subscriptions. This region will also have 1.14 billion users by 2024 as per the report titled “Asia pacific mobile broadband forecast”.
The report added that APAC will also be the largest region in terms of revenue in 2024. It will capture 44 per cent revenue market share. North America will take the second spot at 32 per cent.
Impact of 5G not much visible in 2020
As per the report, in terms of mobile data traffic or usage, the average monthly data usage in the APAC region will expectedly increase from 5GB as of 2019 to 11GB by 2024. The APAC countries that will lead mobile data traffic growth over the forecast period are South Korea, China, Japan and Australia.
The report also said that the impact of 5G technologies will not be much visible in 2020. This is due to the fact that operators and vendors are still working on their rollout plans.
It also said that 4G’s share in the total APAC telecom market had increased from 6.4 per cent in 2014 to 49 per cent in 2018.
