Friday, February 21, 2014: The southern state of Andhra Pradesh will be signing the power purchase agreements with the solar photovoltaic project developers, soon. Under AP’s solar power policy, the agreements will encourage clean energy in the state.
M Sahoo, special chief secretary of the department of energy, said, “The letters of intent have been issued to the developers and PPAs will be shortly signed. We expect at least 500 MW capacity to come up by early next year under the State solar policy,” in a Hindu Business Line report.
The government further plans to generate an additional power of 200 MW using naphtha and 500 MW using LNG. However, in some concerns expressed by the solar project developers, in league to the evacuation of power in rural areas are under address-al. It is expected that a resolve on the issues of demand-supply mismatch is likely to be achieved through a representation to the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC).
“We are trying to sort out the evacuation issue which will enable solar power plants to function normally even in areas where there is no power supply,” Sahoo noted in the same report.
