For more sustainable last-mile delivery and enhanced fleet management across the country, Amazon India and Gentari have joined hands to introduce 10,000 EVs by next year.
On Monday, Amazon India announced an alliance with electric mobility company Gentari to advance its electric vehicle (EV) deployment plan. The goal is to establish a fleet of 10,000 electric vehicles for last-mile deliveries by 2025.
According to Amazon India, the partnership will see Gentari Green Mobility Business supply and deploy EVs over the next three years while providing complete fleet management services. This will enhance delivery service providers’ (DSPs) access to electric three-wheelers for Amazon deliveries and ensure the smooth operation and maintenance of the EV fleet.
Abhinav Singh, VP of Operations at Amazon India, mentioned that by the end of 2023, the company had deployed over 7,200 EVs in India and is on track to reach its target of 10,000 EVs in the domestic market by next year.
He stated that their goal is to empower delivery service partners by offering access to suitable transportation, comprehensive vehicle life cycle management services, and facilities for charging and parking.
Navjit Gill, Country Head of Gentari India, highlighted that the partnership supports India’s focus on e-mobility and benefits from government initiatives like the Electric Mobility Promotion scheme, which encourages these types of industry collaborations.
Operating across 400 cities in the country, Amazon’s electric fleet supports last-mile deliveries with EVs that can travel up to 50 km/h and over 100 km per charge.
As revealed by the company, the venture will provide real-time performance data to boost operational efficiency and support aspiring entrepreneurs in launching last-mile delivery businesses. It will also offer essential infrastructure, technology, and fleet management support, empowering them to serve Amazon customers throughout India.
